Simeon ten Holt was a great exponent of Dutch contemporary classical music and well known for his personal approach to minimal composition. Most of his works are for one piano or an ensemble of multiple pianos, as with his most famous piece Canto Ostinato, which he composed between 1976 and 1979.

cantodellemontagneI came across french pianist, arranger and composer Thierry Maillard about two years ago by discovering the records Beyond the Ocean (2013) and The Alchemist (2014), which were both released under the name Thierry Maillard Trio. Back then I was particularly struck by the fine balance between recurring melody and seemingly improvised jazz-sequences in practically every track.
